Pennsylvania rally had thousands show up in solidarity with the former President who casted himself a victim of corrupt justice system motivated to oust him from Presidential elections.
Campaigning in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Donald Trump asserted himself an innocent falsely accused of charges to keep him away from the White House. His first criminal trial which is all set to kick-start from Monday, April 15th, will prosecute him on charges of falsifying business records in connection to a $130,000 payment he made in 2016 to an adult film start, Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair.
“When I walk into that court room, I know I will have the love of 200 million Americans behind me”, excluded Trump enthusiastically to his conservative base in Pennsylvania.
Since the beginning of his prosecution, Trump has made numerous allegations on sitting President for orchestrating a personal attack on his opponent through his use of power to manipulate the judiciary. “Two days from now, the entire world will see the commencement of the very first Biden trial”, said Trump while addressing the rally in eastern Pennsylvania.
The Monday trial will see the selection of 12 jurors who will serve as jury expected to render an impartial verdict and legitimize Trump’s fate in the forthcoming elections. If convicted, Trump will walk as a prominent candidate with a felony conviction running for President for the U.S constitution does not flout a person with a criminal record from holding office in the White House.
Pennsylvania rally – a subject of Trump’s effort to blow his gag orders
“Tomorrow morning I will be in a criminal court, before a totally conflicted judge, a corrupt prosecutor, a legal system in chaos, and crooked Joe Biden’s henchman”, wrote Trump on his Truth social page.
In his continued effort to down-caste Judge – Juan Merchan who is overhearing Trump’s hush-money trial, the judge had to expand Trump’s gag orders in a recent hearing to prevent the presumptive Republican nominee from attacking the families of witnesses, judges, lawyers and jurors involved directly in the case.
Trump in his Pennsylvania rally came willing to test the boundaries of his gag orders, describing what will be the first criminal trial against the former president as a “communist show trail”.
Trump’s attempt to lambast his former lawyer – Michael Cohen who is a star witness in the case has drawn attention from members of the law. Cohen who facilitated payments to Stormy Daniels through a shell company was paid $420,000 by Trump. The officials working in Trump’s organizations have admitted to falsely list the payments under legal expenses.
The entire defense which Trump’s legal team is adhering to is built on the timing of the case which they deem is deliberately scheduled to sabotage Trump’s presidential candidature.
“WHY DIDN’T THE MANHATTAN D.A BRING THIS RIDICULOUS AND LAMBASTED CASE SEVEN YEARS AGO? Because they are corrupt and wanted to use it for purposes of Election Interference against Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent!”, he posted.
What impact can the Pennsylvania rally have on Trump’s trial?
In his address at Pennsylvania rally, Trump described his indictment as a “badge of honor” and cast himself a political victim of turmoil unleashed by incumbent president – “I’m proud to do it for you”, he said.
The 34 felony counts which Trump faces in this case does not rule him out from contesting for Presidentship. If anything it can serve a big blow for prosecutors since the charge of falsifying records under New York jurisdiction is amounted to a ‘misdemeanor’ which does not foresee strong legal credibility.
Only by elevating misdemeanor to a point of felony can a powerful case against the former President be produced. And if only one can prove the defense’s intent for committing another crime can a misdemeanor elevate to a charge of felony.
Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney who had filed charges against Trump, accused him for concealing material information from public during the 2016 elections which could have generated severe impact on the outcome of the votes. Despite the outcome, Trump will fight a tough fight in the upcoming elections.
