Ariana Grande is all set to return to her acting career with her upcoming musical fantasy movie, “Wicked”.
On Wednesday, Universal Pictures released the first full promo for the initial installment of the two-part film version. Jon M. Chu‘s film, which stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The film is set to release on Thanksgiving, November 27, 2024 and a sequel will release on November 26, 2025.
All about the trailer
The trailer of ‘Wicked’ opens with a shot of the magical land. The trailer, then, introduces the audience to Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo). These two characters are completely opposite of each other – they are pink and green. The movie will focus on their journey from Shiz University where they learn the tricks of the trade to the magical land of Oz which puts their skills and friendship to the test. The story will also revolve around the important Emerald City.
From the glance at it, ‘Wicked’ looks absolutely stunning. The chemistry between Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is endearing and it grows on you. Similarly, another character who has left fans stunned is Michelle Yeoh. She looked the part and acted the part with the required finesse. The set is breathtakingly beautiful and with Grande on the side, it’s pretty sure the music of this film would land on the charts.
Role and casts
Ariana Grande will play the role of Glinda Upland, who is a popular young woman and later becomes the most powerful sorceress in the land of Oz. Although, Cynthia Erivo is also in the lead role of the movie who is playing Elphaba the witch. Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James and Keala Settle will be seen in supporting roles. ‘Game of thrones’ star Peter Dinklage will also play a vital role in the movie.
At CinemaCon 2024, Ariana said, “We both(Erivo) felt such a tremendous responsibility to honour these women and to pour our hearts, our souls, our tears — so many different pairs of lashes. I’m really grateful for this journey that we have taken together.”

‘Wicked’, American musical fantasy film is directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which in turn was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire.
Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The project adapts characters that originated in L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and were brought to life in the Oscar-winning 1939 film musical The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland as Dorothy.
Director John M. Chu said, “We dreamed very, very, very big for ‘Wicked’. We want to honour the source material. But we also want to create a new world of its own — a magic land full of sights and sounds that will astonish.”
Fans reaction to the trailer
Reacting to the trailer of ‘Wicked’, one fan said, “I’ve been waiting for this movie for like a decade.”
A second fan commented, “Zoom in, you can see me crying in the corner waiting for the movie” while another fan declared it as the “Movie Of the Year.”
