Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are set to reprise their roles in a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue from Amazon MGM Studios, announced by Amazon Prime Video.

The original film, based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, depicted the romantic journey of Alex Claremont-Diaz (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez), the first son of the United States, and Prince Henry (played by Nicholas Galitzine) of Britain, exploring their clandestine romance amidst the complexities of politics and royalty.
The film earned a lot of praise and earned an instant fan base, thanks to the leads’ chemistry and the sheer queer joy of watching them fall in love. Amazon MGM Studios has greenlighted the development of the film’s sequel.
Plot of the movie
“Red, White & Royal Blue”, premiered on streamer Prime Video in August 2023. The movie follows the story of Alex Claremont Diaz, the first son of the United States and his romantic relationship with Prince Henry. The film begins with how Alex is promptly cast as a young royal following his mother’s (Uma Thurman) election as president.
However, things take an unexpected turn after Alex’s long-running feud with his royal counterpart, Prince Henry, goes through a change in emotions. After a serious altercation between the two stirs controversy, the heads of the family stage a fake friendship between Alex and Henry, which, however, grows into something more meaningful.
Overcoming the turmoil surrounding the royal families and the re-elections, the film leaves the couple in a good place, making fans want more in the next chapter.
Production and announcement
According to reports, Matthew Lopez will return to write the script for the sequel alongside McQuiston, while Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will produce the film, joined by Michael McGrath and Lopez. McQuiston will also act as the executive producer. The Red, White & Royal Blue sequel were shared during a Q&A session at the screening of the film at the Culver Theatre.
The announcement about the sequel comes days after director Matthew Lopez revealed that he had already pitched an idea for it. Speaking to Gay Times, he said, “If people like the movie, if it’s successful and people want more, who am I to deny them? Not confirmed! That’s not confirmation. Look, any movie that ever simply gets made is a miracle. It’s greedy for a filmmaker two weeks before his movie comes out to start talking about a sequel.”
Cast of the movie
Apart from Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, we also see the legendary actor Uma Thurman, who plays the role of the US President, Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, and Stephen Fry, will return is still uncertain since plot details regarding the remain undisclosed.

Nicholas Galtizine is best known for films including ‘Cinderella’, ‘Purple Hearts’ and ‘High Strung’ among others. He was recently seen in the film ‘The Idea of You‘ alongside Anne Hathaway. The film tells the story of a 40 year old single mum who begins an unexpected romance with a 24 year old boy band singer. ‘The Idea of You’ is the story of Ella Rubin, Viktor White, Perry Mattfeld, and Reid Scott among others. Taylor Zakhar Perez is a popular American film and television actor. He has been featured in films including ‘The Kissing Booth’, ‘Minx’, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, and ‘1 Up’.
Though, details about the plot and the shooting schedule are currently kept under wraps. As for the release format, Amazon MGM has yet to announce whether the sequel will premiere on streaming platforms or opt for a theatrical release.
