Confluence of international envoy have shared mutual likeness of the “renewed” proposal tabled by Israel which if accepted by Hamas can terminate military monstrosity in Gaza for 40 days revitalizing its lost humanity and asserting peace in the war-hit world
Disorienting visuals of children begging for food, millions loosing roof over there head, countless migrating barefoot to alien lands and a couple hundred-thousand perished, are few of many heart wrenching outcomes of a war which is waging past 205 days. But the 206th day has brought a hint of hope for troubling spirits desperate to reconcile with their families and curtail further nuclear proliferation.
Israel has renewed terms of its previous 40- day ceasefire proposal. This time it has wheeled back the number of hostages Hamas has to release from its captivity – mainly women, children, elderly and ill individual for Israel to withdraw its military operation from Palestine. The total number of hostages which Israel expects to be released by Hamas has plummeted from forty to thirty-three.
The offer has been quoted “extraordinarily generous” from its countrywide allies. The onus to accept the proposal now lies on Hamas whose decision will generate paramount influence on the future of both the war and for the people of Gaza. “The only thing standing between the people of Gaza and a ceasefire is Hamas”, insinuates US Secretary of State – Antony Blinken who is in Saudi Arabia to discuss with its delegates strategies to release Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity.
If rejected, the proposal will have no chance of revival
The urgency for Hamas to willingly accept Israel’s truce comes after Israel assumes mounting preparations for a ground invasion in Rafah – a city in southern Gaza Strip where more than 2.3 million people are seeking refuge. This proposal is the last attempt at achieving peaceful withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza which had earlier failed and resulted in unprecedented mass atrocities. A Hamas delegation has left for Cairo – capital of Egypt on Monday, to brainstorm on the tabled proposal.
The ground invasion in Rafah which is awaiting its due date has been denounced by western allies as a step far too precarious, considering the overcrowded territories which could lead to thousands of civilian causalities as well as further disrupting aid deliveries entering from Egypt. Joe Biden has publicly reinforced his opposition against Benjamin Netanyahu’s determination to militarize Rafah.
Major compromises have been introduced by Israel in the recent proposal after facing agitation from Israeli inhabitants regarding the lack of hostage prioritization by the government and faced international condemnation over humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Looming famine in Gaza has disconcerted human rights commission ordering Israel to curtail the crisis by allowing aid to pass through.
Israel proposal – a reflection of domestic pressure
Benjamin Netanyahu who exhibited resolute commitment to destroy Hamas military base and bring all 250 hostages back to their homeland seem to have loose his track, according to diplomatic analysts. Since the horrific day, when a coup of armed men came hurriedly on their motorbikes, videorecording their each and every movement, end up killing 1,200 Israeli residents and took 250 back with them to Gaza.
The Israel prime minister has vowed since then that he will peer into every corner to bring those civilians back home and obliterate Hamas’s military legitimacy. In his journey to achieve what he had said, Netanyahu was disposed a “murderer” of the innocent. The day he flagged his military to launch countless strikes on Gaza, every eye watching the situation worsen, could tell that the war had just begun.
The long-exhausting spat which yielded nothing but more misery fueled domestic agony against Netanyahu. Family members of occupied hostages rallied relentlessly on streets and inside government headquarter to display their frustration. Despite these protests, still there are families waiting desperately, in hope, to embrace their loved one’s touch which they have kept alive through nothing but memories.
