Donald J. Trump’s Wildwood beach rally became a “wild festival” of voters who came in full support for the former President, who is intending to establish his reign in the conservative batch of New Jersey
Two days before his friend-turned-foe, Michael Cohen takes stand on the witness box in Trump’s hush money trial, former president, Donald J. Trump on May 11, landed in New Jersey to address his conservative batch. A batch of nearly 100,000 stood under stifling heat, holding pro-Trump banners, demonstrating their irrefutable support for the Presumptive Republican nominee.
In his 90-minute address at Wildwood beach rally, Trump spend two-third of it patronizing Joe Biden, which has become a repetitive characteristic of all his speeches in recent months. The rest one-third of his speech was reserved for important issues which he vowed to crack down during his office time in the White House. All issues which he conveyed in his speech at the rally were problem areas where Biden administration has defaulted the most in, according to Mr. Trump and his supporters.
The rally in New Jersey was only Mr. Trump’s third since his trial began last month. Last week, he held back-to-back events at Wisconsin and Michigan, two battleground states expected to be slightly more critical than New Jersey in the impending Presidential election to be held on November 5th.
Trump’s rally – a symbol of “political-change” in New Jersey?
New Jersey inhabitants have shown undisputed inclination towards Democratic party in every election since 1992. In fact, Trump lost the state by double-digit margins in both 2016 and 2020 presidential election. A state which has voted for Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992, for Mr. Trump, it must be a tough nut-to-crack.
Trump’s rally, held shortly before the start of the summer season, welcomed hoards of people to the beach, where on an usual day, shop vendors hawk an array of novelty items in front of their stores, filled it rather with Trump-related T-shirts and hats. Supporters dabbed on sunscreen hours ahead of Mr. Trump’s arrival. This never-seen-before level of anticipation amongst voters in New Jersey for Mr. Trump, pivoted an important question in minds of political analysts – is some “political “change” underway in a state which has normally defied from voting for the former president.
The choice of venue for Trump’s rally was also meticulously handpicked, for this part of the state is deeply conservative, including the area around Wildwood, a boardwalk town on the southern end of the Jersey Shore and a beach destination popular with working-class families. Even though his choice of venue was contained to voters of his likes, Mr. Trump still boasted confidence in winning the state of New Jersey. “We’re expanding the electoral map, because we are going to officially play in the state of New Jersey.” Mr. Trump said to a packed crowd on the beach. “We are going to win the state of New Jersey.”
Trump in his rally took “solid stand” on Israel-Gaza war and immigration
Trump who has often shrug off from speaking on Israel’s military strategy, made his first most explicit comment on it. After disparaging Joe Biden for warning Israel that he would not supply the country with weapons if it launched a major ground offensive, Trump took a firm stand in Israel’s support. His unhindered support for Israel amidst brewing animosity between Israel and United States must feel like music in Netanyahu’s ears.
“I support Israel’s right to win its war on terror”, he told the crowd, “Is that OK? I don’t know if that’s good or bad politically. I don’t care”. The U.S has not stayed immune from war ramifications, if anything, it is facing the worst one in decades. Biden’s ironclad support for Israel as it unloaded its first carton of military strikes on Gaza, was not received well in his home country, where University students established encampments – carrying Pro-Palestine demonstrations and disrupting peaceful commune of Biden administration.
If it was Trump’s first most explicit comment on Israel-Gaza war, his unwavering stand on immigration was certainly not the first one, if not the thousandth one. Trump has only reaffirmed his intolerable dictum against migrants who he classifies as people coming from “mental institutions”, or “insane asylums”, and comparing them to fictional psychopaths, like Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.
Criticizing Joe Biden for deliberately trying to keep borders open for illegal immigrants who cross-border into the country has been one of the most crucial aspect of Mr. Trump’s presidential manifesto. “We have people that have been released into our country that we don’t want in our country, and they’re coming in totally unchecked, totally unvetted. They are destroying our country.”
