Saudi Arabia won unanimously from the member states of the International Telecommunication Union in a number of international positions during the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC23) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Kingdom’s representatives assume executive roles in the work of the conference by adopting decisions and reports related to the allocation of the frequency spectrum at the international level. And take technical and organizational measures to ensure better use of frequencies allocated to space, air, maritime, and other services and to avoid any radio interference.
During the opening of the conference, the conference president and vice-presidents were elected, and the Kingdom won the position of vice-president of the conference, which will be occupied by Engineer Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Abdul Qadir. It also won two seats in the presidency of the working group concerned with satellite communications, which Engineer Abdul Rahman bin Musa Al Najdi assumed, and the presidency of the group. The work concerned with technical applications used in the aviation sector is undertaken by Engineer Saad bin Ibrahim bin Askar.
It also won the presidency of the Frequency Spectrum Advisory Group (RAG), to be occupied by Engineer Mohammed bin Saad Al-Janoubi, as the group is concerned with reviewing strategies and priorities for the radio sector in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R), and providing instructions and guidance to the study committees in the Union.
The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission stated that the Kingdom’s victory to occupy these positions represents pride in the Kingdom’s capabilities and cadres and reflects the international community’s confidence in its active role and contributions to achieving the objectives of the Radiocommunications Department and its regulatory and technical operations, praising the efforts provided by the Kingdom’s representatives within the committees and study teams that reflect their reliable experience and capabilities. In creating the future of communications, space, and technology globally.
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom has been a member of the International Telecommunication Union Council for 58 years, and is a strong contributor to the initiatives and goals of the International Telecommunication Union, as the Kingdom seeks to enhance regional and international cooperation and solidarity in the field of radiocommunications by holding influential positions in the International Telecommunication Union, such as the presidency of the Radio Regulations Committee. .
