The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2024 inductees were announced live on ABC by Ryan Seacrest and 2022 inductee Lionel Richie during the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night” episode of ‘American Idol’, Sunday – where the Top 14 finalists took on songs from legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees as America voted live for the Top 12.

In an unexpected move by the Hall of Fame, the Rock Hall’s committee took the liberty to usher Buffett in via a separate, non-voted category for musical excellence after his death in September 2023.
The Hall announced 15 nominees for the performer’s category on Feb 10. Only eight of them got voted in, leaving out seven performers, including Mariah Carey, Jane’s Addiction, Sade, Sinead O’Connor, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, Eric B. and Rakim.
“Rock & Roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
The Induction categories include the following:
Performers:
Artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence have changed the course of rock & roll.
Musical Influence Award:
Artists whose music and performance style have directly influenced, inspired, and evolved rock & roll and music impacting youth culture.
Musical Excellence Award:
Given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.
Ahmet Ertegun Award:
Non-performing industry professionals who have had a major influence on the creative development and growth of rock & roll and music that has impacted youth culture.
Eligibility:
Basic criteria for an individual artist or band that they must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Four out of the eight inductees in the Performer category were on the ballot for the first time, including Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Peter Frampton.

The 2024 ceremony will once again stream live on Disney+ with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.
