French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Cairo on Wednesday, where he discussed with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the crisis in Palestine. After he paused on Tuesday in Israel and then in Ramallah, the French President met on Wednesday morning with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Amman before heading to Cairo.
As Egypt is a major mediator between the Palestinians and Israel, and it is the only border country with the Gaza Strip except Israel.
The Egyptian President called for “dealing rationally and wisely,” stressing the importance of the forces’ readiness to “defend Egyptian national security.”
Al-Sisi reiterated that his country “is striving to calm the escalation and support civilians” in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Jordanian King Abdullah II called on “moving immediately to stop the war in Gaza,” during his meeting with Macron on Wednesday in Amman.
A statement issued by the Royal Court said that King Abdullah stressed that “stopping the war on Gaza is an absolute necessity, and the world must move immediately in this direction.”
In addition, he asked the international community to “move immediately to pressure Israel to stop the war, protect civilians, and lift the siege on the Gaza Strip.”
According to the statement, King Abdullah and the French President discussed possible efforts internationally to work to end violence, reach a political horizon to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, ensure security, and achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The King stressed the importance of ensuring the access of humanitarian aid, reiterating his rejection of any attempts to displace or cause displacement in Gaza Strip.”
