Amidst the spiraling warfare, the International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to authorize an unrestrained flow of food supplies and medical aids into Gaza to prevent child morality.
Since the unwavering commitment of Israel to obliterate Hamas after the October 7th genocidal event; killing around 1200 Israeli civilians and taking more than 250 hostage, the socio-economic situation of Gaza has been plummeting, calling for International intervention.
In a recent development, UN’s top court – International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to unfasten its security forces and allow the free flow of food and other emergency utilities into Gaza. The worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza has activated my international delegates and organizations to persuade Israel to suspend its military operations.
On March 25, 14 out of 15 United Nation Security Council(UNSC) members have unanimously voted in favor of a resolution calling for an “immediate” cease-fire in Gaza for the month of Ramadan, also marching for an immediate and unconditional release of all the captives.In the official ICJ publication, the Republic of South Africa on December 23rd, 2023, filed an application against the state of Israel; condemning the act of genocide insinuated against Gaza Strip. The Court, by an Order of 26th January, indicated a set of provisional measures the state of Israel will be obligated to undertake to prevent the commission of any genocidal act.
On 6th March, the Republic of South Africa requested the Court to indicate further provisional measures or modify its provisional measures indicated on 26th January, 2024, to address the latest developments spawning as a consequence of the ongoing conflict.
The ICJ has re-addressed the application filed by the Republic of South Africa deploring the maddening humanitarian crisis roaring in Rafah; a city in the southern Gaza Strip. In the re-addressal on March 28th, 2024, the ICJ has ordered the State of Israel to take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address famine and starvation and the adverse conditions of life faced by the Palestinians in Gaza.
In the March 28th Order, the ICJ has specifically directed state of Israel to provide adequate food, water, fuel, shelter, clothing, hygiene and sanitation requirements, alongside, medical assistance, including medical supplies and support.
Israel’s extensive restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid and commercial goods have critically impacted the Gaza civilians; commissioning a situation of hunger, starvation and famine, says the UN’s high commissioner for human rights.
The state of Israel has rejected the application issued by the Republic of South Africa, maintained the use of weapons for self defense and to annihilate the Palestinian extremist Hamas group and not for the Palestinians.
The ICJ in its March 28th Order has authorized the submission of an open report on all the measures taken to give effect to all the provisional measures ordered by the Court to date, within a period of one month as from the date of this Order.
