Real Madrid 2-0 Borussia Dortmund
The streak is finally broken. In the last four Champions League finals, the score-line has been 1-0. But today, at Wembley Stadium in London, the streak was broken and the score-line was 2-0. However, one streak remained unchanged, the name of the winning team. Real Madrid have never lost a final in this top European club competition since 1981. The trend has not changed this time either.
Last season of Marco Reus and Toni Kroos
A strange scene filled the Wembley Stadium. Marco Reus’s eyes twitched. His fate from 11 years ago did not change, even in the last match for the club he loves. That same Wembley final and that same fate, defeat again!

Toni Kroos’s eyes also twitched too, but he kept smile on his face. This is his last time playing for real. They were saying goodbye for the last time to the fans. They are both legends. But the Champions League final score-line gave Kroos and Reus a different feeling.
Another loss for Dortmund
Dortmund could not return with 1997 form. The nightmare of the 2013 final is back for them again at Wembley. Though, that was what the experts expected. The opponent is Real Madrid. The undisputed ‘King‘ of the Champions League. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. restored the reign of Europe to Real by scoring twice against Borussia Dortmund. It was Real’s 15th title in 18 finals in Europe’s top club competition.
Football isn’t a fairytale and there aren’t always happy endings.
Our story continues, and we couldn’t do it without your support. Our Yellow Wonderwall through it all.
Thank you 💛

But Dortmund dreamed of their second European title. That dream was crushed by a weakness in finishing, a bit of bad luck. And who knows better than Real how to beat the pressure and win the final!
Real’s coach Carlo Ancelotti made two changes to the eleven. Eduardo Camavinga replaces the injured Andrey Tchouameni and Thibaut Courtois replaces Andriy Lunin in the post. Dortmund coach Edin Terzić did not change the XI today. In the Champions League, they have relied on the same eleven of their last three matches.
Match highlights and goals
The players of Dortmund could repay the coach’s trust in the first half. Bad finishing, lack of luck and Thibaut Courtois hampered the game of Dortmund. Attacking midfielder Julian Brandt wasted the first chance of scoring in the 14th minute of the match. Niclas Füllkrug pushed the ball in front of him after a great receive. But, Brant could not keep the shot on the post.
After 7 minutes, Mats Hummels’s pass through the defence gave Dortmund another chance. Karim Adeyemi cleverly avoided the offside trap and found Courtois alone in front. But he could not control the ball while cutting him. Real defender Carvajal then moved in front of Adeyemi. After 2 minutes, 25,000 Dortmund supporters felt the ‘yellow wall’ in the gallery behind Real’s post, luck seems not with them. Otherwise, Füllkrug’s left-footed shot would not have hit the side post of Real!
Füllkrug must have been frowning in the dressing room at the end of the first half after missing an easy goal from Maatsen’s pass.
Before that, of course, the Real players patted Courtois on the back twice. First at 27th minutes; Adeyemi’s dangerous shot from Brandt’s pass was blocked by Courtois, who was given a chance in the XI for the first time this season in the Champions League. That too in the final! “Squawka” said, such a precedent has not been seen before. Courtois, however, made another save in the 41st minute to prevent Lunin from sitting on the bench. Courtois proved that he is a big-match goalkeeper despite being out most of the season due to injury, stopping Sabitzer’s 25 yard shot.
Real could not transmit the momentum in that way, but there was enough excitement in the first half. The pace was there, especially in Dortmund’s game. In the 35th minute, Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was shown a yellow card for an unnecessary foul. The Brazilian star made a couple of good attacks down the wing, but Real suffered mainly from Adeyemi’s lack of pace. The Dortmund winger was Real’s clear headache in the first half. The German club did not see a goal despite having 8 shots on the post in this half. Courtois’ two saves were their best performance of the half, despite Real keeping 2 shots.
After the break, however, the story was different!
Despite being under pressure in the first half, Real’s players kept their cool. No one made an unexpected mistake. Bayern Munich or Manchester City fans may think this is a familiar story! Even if Real is under pressure, they will win by scoring a goal, and that possibility began to peek at the start of the second half. Kobel blocked Toni Kroos’s free kick in the 49th minute with great skill. By that time, Real’s game had increased.
In the next 20 minutes, Dani Carvajal, Vinicius squandered goal chances. Desperate for a goal, Dortmund coach Terzic brought Adeyemi off for Marco Reus in the 72nd minute. The stage was full. Crouse on one side, Royce on the other; Both last matches for their respective clubs. Kroos’s last match in his club career. The German is pleased with the legend because he feels lucky.
Real gets a corner in the 74th minute due to a wrong clearance by a Dortmund player. Carvajal headed in from Kroos’ corner. Real led 1-0 and then Dortmund’s defence began to collapse like a house of cards.

Dortmund goalkeeper Kobel made at least three good saves before Vinicius scored the last goal of the match in the 83rd minute. Vinny strengthened his claim to the Ballon d’Or by scoring a simple placing shot from Jude Bellingham’s pass after Maatsen’s wrong pass.
Dortmund then, however, sent the ball into the net once. Füllkrug’s header was disallowed for offside. Real’s white camp in the gallery had already started celebrating. In the 85th minute, Ancelotti replaced Luka Modric with Kroos.
Real fans gave Kroos a standing ovation as he left the field with a hug from Vinny. The winner’s smile was on Kroos’ face in the last moments of his club career. That smile is the satisfaction of bringing Real to their 15th Europa League crown.

It’s going to be a huge party in London for those Madrid fans. They are dancing in the stands as the trophy is lifted by each player. It might be the 15th time they have won this competition but it gets no less special.
