“Abortion legislation is and should be state regulated and whatever they decide must be the law of the land, or in this case, the law of the state”, articulates Trump in his four-minute video post on Truth Social.
Donald Trump on Monday put-forth his personal or political standpoint on the contentious issue wheeling around women’s reproductive rights. Elucidating on individual state demographics, former President in a four-minute video post announced the indispensable authority states should have in regulating independent pregnancy-termination procedures.
“States will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both. Whatever they decide must be the law of the land, or in this case the law of the state”, Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, said in the videotaped address.
Setting the floor for the impending elections, Trump’s recent announcement had many rally in a state of absolute disbelief, many of whom had once invested their faith in the very conservative, pro-American leader who they thought would endorse a national ban on abortion.

In a statement on Monday, the President of SBA Pro-Life America, Marjorie Dannenfelser, one of the most active and powerful anti-abortion group in the country, said she was “deeply disappointed in Trump’s position.
Not only did his announcement dashed the hopes of many anti-abortion groups but had Democrats under scrutiny for there unassailable blame on Trump’s outright bans and heavy restrictions.
Abortion at the center of a political war?
A sweeping victory in primaries of four crucial states a week ago solidified Biden and Trump’s position in the forthcoming Presidential elections. But the force which will further their political deliverance is the promise their administration will safeguard to either promote or proscribe abortion laws in the country.
The notorious overruling of the Roe v Wade case by the conservative Supreme Court judges in 2022 which revoked complete legalization of abortion in the country, outlashed a nationwide cry.
In Trump’s video address, he touted boastfully of his work in manufacturing the overruling. “I was proudly the person responsible for ending of something all legal scholars, both sides, wanted and in fact demanded to be ended – Roe v Wade, they wanted it ended”, Trump said.
Joe Biden reverted on Trump’s announcement, saying Trump had “made it clear once again today that he is – more than anyone in America – the person responsible for ending Roe v Wade.”
Abortion which became a central issue of the election after the Supreme Court overruling of the 1973 Roe v Wade case, which now proclaim abortion unconstitutional, has been outright banned in more than 20 federal states, inspiring further state legislatures to impose severe restrictions on abortion rights.
In his statement, Trump did not clarify his personal stand on abortion if he is touted President. Will he sign into law a national ban on abortion during his hold on the Congress or will he continue his decentralization efforts to lend states the power to decide, remains inconclusive.
But he did continued his attack on the Democrats ‘radical’ approach to foster uncheck access to termination even after birth. In his video address, he projected Democrats as ‘executors’ who perform child execution post-gestation cycle while simultaneously reprimanding Republicans for being too extreme on the issue.
Since the 2022 ruling, Democrats have won big on ballot boxes campaigning to restore federal protections for abortion up to the point of viability, or when fetus can live outside the womb. Viability is considered up to 24 weeks gestation or complete two-trimesters. Many states even conservatives where abortion bans are unpopular forwarded their support to the pro-liberal campaigns.
A women’s reproductive rights still hangs in political exploits of parties rubbing their support to provide healthy access to abortion facilities while many restricting to liberalize it. The issue therefore becomes a subject of political significance which can have unintended consequences both on women’s health and the health of the political infrastructure of the country.
