The company announced that social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, will establish a moderation office in Texas with a focus on combating information associated with child sexual abuse.
According to Joe Benarroch, head of business operations at X, the “Trust and Safety center of excellence” in Austin would initially hire 100 content moderators with the purpose of removing child sexual exploitation (CSE) content and other infractions of the platform’s policies.
X set to launch child focused business
“X does not have a child-focused business, but it is imperative that we continue to invest in preventing offenders from using our platform for any kind of engagement or distribution of CSE content,” Benarroch wrote in an email.
In a blog post, the business that Elon Musk acquired at the end of 2022 declared its intention to “make X inhospitable for actors who seek to exploit minors.” “In order to combat CSE, X has stepped up its enforcement and rules. We are currently taking swift action against the people who are disseminating this information as well as against the user networks that allow their members to interact with it.
“We aimed to provide Senators and staff with an understanding of how X is a new company and how it has changed in the last four months.” Because X has altered a number of things that were overlooked prior to the purchase, particularly as it relates to CSE,” Benarroch stated.
According to him, X employs around 2,000 content moderators on a full-time and contract basis.
After purchasing Twitter, Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” promised to lift the platform’s limitations. Several restrictions were lifted or eased, allowing many individuals who had been forbidden to return.
A rule intended to combat hate speech and misinformation was used by the EU to declare “formal infringement proceedings” against X last month after finding messages that appeared to be connected to Hamas’s October 7 attack in Israel.
