It looks like India are the favorites venturing into every ICC campaign. Dominating the opposition right from the start. Absolute, quality bowling attack with the highest wicket-taker and the highest run-scorer in the tournament. What happens after that is seemingly unbelievable.
Ravi Shastri on multiple occasions said, “The problem with India is not in the league stage. India has qualified for the semi-final and the final of every major ICC event. Somehow, the performance of the team drops on the day.”
Australia, after losing the opening 2 matches are considered not to be in the league fighting for the title. But, that championship spirit that the Aussies have doesn’t let them go under so easily.
What works for the Australian team, is their unilateral approach towards saving each and every run on the field. The catch by Travis head turned the match upside down. There wasn’t any looking back after that.
The Official Choker of International Cricket
The most successful captain of the white ball cricket. Won every ICC championship trophy for India. His mindset and approach towards the game was merely simple. Stick to your tactics and hold your guns. In the champions trophy final, England needed 28 runs of 18 balls. Merely, an easy target for the batting team with dew in factor. The skipper was advised to go with the spinner instead of a fast bowler. But, MSD had different gameplan altogether. His approach was single attack the batsmen with the neck high bouncer or maybe try a slower one when required. The point and third man was back for this shoot. It worked. India lifted the ICC champions trophy.
Well, that was 2013. A decade has passed away. India still ain’t able to lift any ICC trophy.
Australia: The undisputed champion
Australia did every thing right this year. They won the Ashes, the ICC test Championship, and now the lifted the world cup in India. Australia won their first world cup back in 1987. India hosted that World Cup. Australia doesn’t feature any star player. Travis Head wasn’t among the top run scorer in the tournament. The Aussies knew he needs to work only once. Travis Head is a high risk – high reward player.
