It is expected that the movement of underground trains in London will be greatly affected or stop completely, from Sunday to Thursday, due to a strike to demand an increase in wages.
In detail, it is expected that London underground train traffic will stop earlier than usual, starting on Sunday evening, while the TFL Authority, which is responsible for the transportation network in the British capital, recommended that travelers end their trips before 17:30 local and Greenwich time.
Expectations indicate that “severe disturbances” will affect trips from Monday to Thursday, with a significant decline in the number of running trains or their complete cessation, while the situation is expected to return to normal on Friday afternoon.
The RMT union (National Union of Railway, Maritime and Transport Workers) decided to strike to demand an increase in wages, according to Al Arabiya Net.
A union spokesman said in a statement, “TFL was unable to avoid this strike due to the failure to propose an acceptable offer to London Underground employees,” explaining that the decision to strike “was not taken lightly.”
The union noted that about 10,000 of its members are participating in the strike that began on Friday for certain categories of employees.
In light of a severe high-cost crisis, the United Kingdom has faced many strikes in a large number of sectors in recent months, most notably in the health field.
