The majority of us perceive that we are born to achieve marvelous things in life. What if, that is not the case? Our entire life, we run behind things to achieve, and goals to accomplish. When I sat to watch Soul. After, numerous recommendations from my friends and colleagues. I didn’t have high expectations from Pixar.
The Soul is a story of Joe Gardner. Who has worked his entire life to share a stage with a prominent musical sensation. His life is music. All that he thinks and breathes revolves around music. He has finally made it.
The conversation Joe has with his mother, tells us a story of our rebellious nature.
Read about the Necessary evil in movies.
Mom said, “So much been done chasing gigs, huh? How long are you going to keep doing this, Joey?”
Joe said, “This one’s different!”
Mom said, “Does this gig have a pension? Health Insurance? No? Then it’s same as the other ones. It’s like you can’t even be truthful with me anymore.”
What Joe said after this, will surely resemble with a lot of people.
Joe said, “Mom, I know we’ve had some rough times, but you’re right, I can’t be truthful to you. Because it seems like no matter what I do, you disapprove. I finally landed the gig of my life and you’re upset. Music is all I think about. From the moment I wake up in the morning to the moment I fall asleep at night. This isn’t about my career, mom. It’s my reason for living. And I know dad felt the same way. I’m just afraid that if I died today, that my life would’ve amounted to nothing.”
Joe at last did get to do the thing he was born for. But, something didn’t clicked. He wasn’t feeling special. There wasn’t anything surreal about performing. As Joe had imagined.
After, achieving his purpose. For which he escaped form the Great Beyond. He wasn’t fulfilled. Joe’s life still amounted to nothing.
The movie made me aware about life. It’s not chasing big dreams, that special day or the special moment in life. It’s all about living the life to the fullest. Making sure you enjoy the mundane task as drinking water, walking and talking to a friend.
