On Sunday, March 3, Nikki Haley prevailed in the Republican candidate primary held in Washington, DC.
In the contest against former president Donald Trump, this is her first triumph. Her victory occurs right before Super Tuesday, when votes will be cast in fifteen states and one territory.
According to a statement from Haley’s spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas, “it’s not unexpected that Conservatives closest to Washington instability oppose Donald Trump and all his chaos.”
Another statement was issued by Trump’s campaign, referring to it as a “report on Nikki Haley Being adorned Queen of the Pond.”
“Tonight’s results in the District of Columbia reinforce the primary goal of the president’s campaign — he is going to drain the sludge and put Americans first,” concluded the press release.
Most recently, Trump prevailed in the Republican primary in Michigan, and Haley was defeated in yet another 2024 election. Following Haley’s defeat in her home territory of South Carolina, Trump has won. Still, she swore to carry on the battle.
The Haley campaign saw Trump’s defeat in Michigan as a dangerous omen. It was reported that around one-third of Republican primary electors did not vote for the outgoing president.
National spokesperson for the Haley campaign Olivia Perez-Cubas stated in a statement that “Let this serve as an additional indication that what occurred in Michigan is going to continue to play out across the country,” as reported by NBC News. “Republicans will continue to lose to the socialist left as long as Trump’s candidature is the front-runner. Our kids ought to be treated better.”
Haley was defeated by Trump in Nevada, New Hampshire, and Iowa, all states where she was not on the ticket. Trump also triumphed against her in the US Virgin Islands before to his loss in South Carolina.
Haley continued to defend her choice to continue running in the Michigan race prior to the winner being declared. Only a few states have had elections thus far. We’re doing this one state at a time, one day at a time, despite the media’s want to move quickly, she said in an interview.
Republicans in the nation’s capital have voted against Trump before. Even though he went on to secure the nomination nationally, Trump garnered less than 14% of the votes and no delegates in the most recent fierce Republican primary in the District of Colombia in 2016.
Tuesday is the largest day of presidential primary nomination contests, with voters from 15 states and one US territory participating. There will be 874 Republican delegates up for grabs on what is known as Super Tuesday.
June is the date of the Democratic election in Washington.
