French president Emmanuel Macron will join the red carpet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jaipur on Thursday afternoon, in his royal style at a roadshow called Shobha Yatra.
PM Modi along with President Macron will travel from Jantar Mantar to Hawa Mahal 6 pm onwards, enjoying the beautiful views of the Pink City.
“This is one of the unique formats, where a visiting foreign leader is given a royal style welcome involving people of the country”, a senior official, in charge of the arrangements, said.
After the road show an exquisite dinner is arranged at Jaipur’s Taj Rambagh Palace followed by a conversation on bilateral and global issues of concerns.
According to the sources, Macron’s visit is a unique reciprocal gesture involving visits by heads of states on national days as PM Modi visited France during its National Day on July 13-14, 2023.
Macron as the Chief Guest
Macron will be Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebration in New Delhi on January 26. He will be the sixth French leader to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebration.
26 January, 1998 marked the beginning of the strategic partnership between India and France, first for France outside the EU.
Civil and nuclear matters, defense and security and space are the core pillars of this partnership. Starting with the Rafale deal to the latest acquisition of 26 of the aircraft’s marine version, technology transfer by France for construction of six Scorpene-class submarines to boost the navy’s falling numbers.
Modi and Macron are expected to deliberate on the specific issue of Red sea, Israel-Hamas conflict and the situation in Ukraine.
At the Republic day, a 95 member marching contingent and 33 member band contingent from France will take part in the parade. After that Macron will attend the ‘at home’ reception by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
