Maren Morris’s divorce from her four year marriage
In October 2023, the “My Church” singer-songwriter filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Ryan Hurd, citing irreconcilable differences.
The hit-making singer filed for divorce from her husband Ryan Hurd on Oct. 2 after five years of marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2018 in Nashville. Their divorce finalized in January 2024.
Hurd, 37, is a singer and songwriter with writing credits for acts like Blake Shelton, Lady A and Luke Bryan. Hurd and Morris had a son together in 2020.
Morris, 34, spoke on her divorce during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” late last year.
“I would like this to sort of wrap up. I don’t have the headspace for that yet,” Morris said when Stern asked if she was dating again. “But I’m writing so much right now. That’s kind of been my way of dating is just through song.”
Maren Morris’s sexual controversy
The Grammy-winning singer also expressed her feelings about the controversy surrounding sexual expression in the country music community.
“I hate feeling like I need to be the hall monitor of treating people like human beings in country music,” said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2022.
“It’s exhausting. But there’s a very Insidious culture of people feeling very comfortable being transphobic and homophobic and racist, and that they can wrap it in a joke and no one will ever call them out for it.”
The Interview came after an online dispute with Brittany Aldean, wife of country music star Jason Aldean, over comments made about transgender youth.
Morris has long been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. In a June 2023 interview with Billboard, she spoke out against the more than 450 anti-LGBTQ+ bills being considered at various state levels in the U.S.
“The fact is, they don’t have solutions for actual problems — this is their niche thing that they get to go off on,” she said about politicians pushing anti-drag legislation.
Morris is known for songs like “The Bones,” “My Church,” “Chasing After You,” “The Middle” and more.
