The American company IBM announced the suspension of all its advertisements on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), after monitoring that the company’s advertisements were placed next to pro-Nazi content.
The American company explained in statements reported by the British newspaper “Financial Times” that all advertisements on the network were suspended, after the monitoring group “Media Matters” revealed that it found advertisements for “IBM” and several other technology giants, next to pro-Nazi content and posts. Others promote Hitler.
The company explained, “We have zero tolerance for any hate speech or discrimination, so we immediately suspended all of our advertising on X and are investigating this completely unacceptable situation.”
An official in X said: “ the posts that were monitored “will no longer be monetizable,” and will appear with “sensitive media” labels, which require users to click on a warning above it in order for the content to be displayed.”
While we realize it’s not an ideal placement for any ad, the post only received “about 8,000 impressions,” the official continued.
IBM’s decision to halt advertising on X also comes after Musk on Wednesday boosted and drew attention to an antisemitic X post and issued statements that drew backlash from critics. In one post, Musk criticized the Anti-Defamation League, alleging that the nonprofit “unjustly attacks the majority of the West, despite the majority of the West supporting the Jewish people and Israel.”
X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, also commented: On the order in a post on the platform, she said: “Discrimination by everyone must stop in all areas.”
She continued, saying, “X has been very clear about our efforts to combat anti-Semitism and discrimination. There is no place for that anywhere in the world. It is ugly and wrong.”
As a result of Musk’s recent inflammatory comments, a coalition of 163 Jewish leaders on Thursday issued a statement under the banner X Out Hate, reiterating their call for big companies like Disney, Apple, and Amazon “to stop funding X through their ad spend.”
The group also called on “Apple and Google to remove X from their respective app stores, per their own rules.”
