FIFA revealed the method for determining the competitors for the first Club World Cup, which will include 32 teams in 2025.
The next edition of the Club World Cup, a new and expanded tournament featuring 32 teams, will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025. The FIFA Council met ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup 2023™ semi-finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and took key decisions about the first 32-team FIFA Club World Cup™, which will be played in the United States in 2025. The competition’s official name will be Mundial de Clubes FIFA and will feature clubs from each of the six confederations.
Gianno_infantino, The FIFA President said on his Instagram page: “As of 2024, there will be an annual FIFA club competition – the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament will feature all current confederation premier club competition champions and concludes with a final at a neutral venue between the UEFA Champions League winners and the winners of an intercontinental play-off between clubs from the other confederations.”
He added: ” Chile will host FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 and Poland will host FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026.”
” The framework for the training compensation system for women’s football has been approved. It’s great to see further steps approved by the FIFA Council as we continue to strive to achieve our goal of making football truly global” he continued.
FIFA Schedule for Club World Cup
FIFA published pictures showing how the participating teams were selected. Clubs can gain a place through their main club competition in one of two ways; Being crowned champions, or by ranking them; Points are earned through results and progress in that competition.
The final place is allocated to a club from the host country, the United States of America.
According to “Russia Today”, the official website of the International Football Association revealed the list of clubs that guaranteed their direct qualification to the Club World Cup, and it included: Wydad of Morocco and Al-Ahly of Egypt from Africa so far, Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia and Urawa of Japan from Asia, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City from Europe.
The new system includes 12 European teams in the World Cup, 4 from Africa, the same from Asia and North America, in addition to 6 from South America, and a team from Oceania, with a team representing the host country.
The English Manchester City team won the 2023 Club World Cup several days ago for the first time in its history and in the last edition of the tournament in its old form, which was held in Jeddah.
