The Qatari Al Jazeera channel announced on Wednesday that several members of the family of its correspondent in Gaza, Wael Al-Dahdouh, were killed, including his wife, daughter, and son, because of an “Israeli air strike”.
The raid targeted a house to which they were displaced during the war between Israel and Hamas.
The Qatari network strongly condemned the indiscriminate targeting and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza, which led to the death of members of the Al-Dahdouh family and many other victims.
The channel extended its condolences in a statement: “its sincere condolences and great sympathy to colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh after the death of members of his family, including his wife, daughter, and son,” noting that others are still missing “
They added: “Al Jazeera is deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our colleagues in Gaza and hold the Israeli authorities responsible for their security.”
“We urge the international community to intervene and put an end to these attacks on civilians, thereby safeguarding innocent lives.” They added.
Footage shown by the channel from the hospital showed Al-Dahdouh sobbing over his son’s body, saying, “They will take revenge on us in the children.”
The Journalist’s family was displaced after evacuating Gaza City as they followed Israel’s warning for residents to move south.
Al-Dahdouh said: “This is the safe zone the occupation (Israeli) army was talking about.”
Al-Dahdouh is one of the well-known journalists in the Arab world. He mainly covered the wars that the Strip has witnessed over the past years.
This incursion came after the 7th October Hamas’ unprecedented attack.
Since then, Israel has launched air strikes and bombardments on the Gaza Strip, killing 6,546 people, most of them civilians, including 2,704 children, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.
