Out of the three arrested conspirators – one was a married couple from Dusseldorf and a man from Bad Homburg arrested on suspicion of spying on behalf of China. The prosecutors claim all three suspected were passing key military and technical information to China authorities in exchange for monetary fulfillment. A surge in the number of inhabitants shaking hands with international secret services has alarmed Germany’s domestic intelligence agency who has said it could be “just the tip of the iceberg” of spy rings operating in the country.
Among many allegations which prosecutors corroborated against the three indicted, one was the unlawful exportation of a laser machine to China. Information on machine part technology that could be used in warships was allegedly also sent to China. The employability of all three were meticulously studied by the prosecution team who alleged Chinese secret service, the Ministry of State Security (MSS) behind their recruitment. The unit the prosecutors thought were enrolled sometime after 2002 and were operational until at least June 2022.
German trio established a ‘research project’ to swing knowledge to China
Thomas R, the prosecutors credited was the go-to-informant for the three accused. Acting an intermediary between the defendants and their Chinese officials – floating channel of communication to swing knowledge pieces back and forth between Germany and China. German media reports that Thomas R. spoke fluent Mandarin and was married to a Chinese woman.

The head of the domestic Germany Intelligence agency confided in media the motive behind the culprits acts of espionage as ‘purely monetary’. The servicemen in Chinese secret service transacted what prosecutors thought, up to five-digit financial accommodation to all three arrested for their noble service towards the Chinese state government.
