In another welt to Donald Trump’s continuous legal horse-riding, the Supreme Court Judge of New York – Justice Juan Merchan has upheld his gag orders, expanding its efficacy – barring the in-the-running President from making provocative comments on families of Judicial personnel.
The Judge overseeing Donald Trump’s impending criminal trial in New York has upheld his gag orders, expanding its validity to prevent in-the-running contender for the Presidential office from making agitational comments on the family members of the Judiciary body – lawyers, court staff, Judge and the district attorney.
Donald Trump’s defense contested the expansion, proclaiming it an exercise against the core political values which peddles Trump or anyone to freely criticize what one perceives to be a danger against their fair representation.
Judge Juan Merchan whilst rejecting the defense’s contention briefed upon the unwavering fear which is injected in the assigned Judicial personnel called to participate in the court proceedings following such incidences. The fear only inflates further when family members are at the receiving end.
The original gag order barred Donald Trump from ill-speaking against the family members of any counsel or staff member, if his statements were intended to sabotage their daily work practice. But the earlier gag disregarded the same principles and their application on the family members of the Judge and the district attorney.
In the revised order, Justice Juan Merchan wrote, “Trump is now explicitly prohibited from assailing the family members of any lawyers or court staff involved in the case, as well as family members of the judge and the district attorney”, further expanding the gag order.
Trump’s attack on the Judge’s daughter
The gag orders were expanded after Donald Trump attacked Justice Juan Merchan’s daughter – Lauren Merchan online after she changed her profile photo on her X account with the photo of Trump behind bars. “The photo makes it impossible for me to get a fair trial”, Trump wrote.
The Court Spokesperson has maintained that Lauren Merchan’s X account was deleted but later revamped under mysterious circumstances, inferring a third-party involvement. Despite the formal affirmation, Trump’s defense council and supporters have reiterated the “bias” clause, contemplating on the personal despise the Merchan’s family holds against the former President.
The undivided attention that Donald Trump is forwarding for his Judgeship’s daughter has partly to do with Lauren Merchan’s previous affiliations and professional commitments. She worked as an executive at Authentic – a digital marketing agency that works with Democratic political candidates adhering to improve the candidates’ overall portfolio and social media presence.
