Mike Pence, whose fans called for Pence’s execution during their January 6 attack on Congress, has decided not to back Donald Trump, the candidate he served with as vice president for four years.
The former governor of Indiana and GOP presidential nominee stated on Fox News on Friday, “It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year.”
When asked why he didn’t support the ultimate nominee, Mike Pence cited the events of January 6, 2021, when a crowd invaded Congress and Trump allegedly told advisers that Mike Pence “deserved” to be hanged for his refusal to stop Joe Biden’s 2020 election win from being certified.
Trump Record Boasted By Pence
Mike Pence, however, focused more on the policies that Trump had implemented to win the Republican nomination. This accomplishment was made even though Trump is currently dealing with 88 criminal charges stemming from four indictments, multimillion-dollar civil penalties related to his business dealings, and a rape allegation that a judge found to be “substantially true.”
Mike Pence declared himself to be “extremely proud of our administration’s record.” A more peaceful globe and the appointment of conservatives to our courts were all results of the conservative record that increased American prosperity and security.
However, he stated that “I made it clear that there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues, and not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercised on January 6” during his presidential campaign, which he ended in October, months before the first vote, in Iowa.
Under Trump and Mike Pence, the US national debt skyrocketed. Regarding abortion rights, federal rights were eliminated in 2022 by the Supreme Court, to which Trump nominated three right-wing justices. But while Democrats fight on the topic, Republicans have now lost a string of elections.
Mike Pence Declines Trump Endorsement
While Trump takes pride in selecting such justices, Democrats are setting themselves up to make abortion rights a major campaign theme in November. Trump’s “reversal” on “becoming tough on China and supporting our administration’s effort to force the sale of.. TikTok” was another point Pence brought up. Pence declined to guess as to why Trump has publicly opposed pressuring ByteDance, the parent firm of TikTok, to sell.
“What I can tell you is that Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years in office,” he stated in each of these examples.
And for that reason, I am unable to support Donald Trump in this campaign with a clear conscience. Trump now has the support of the majority of his previous opponents for the Republican nomination. Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley was the latest to withdraw, but she hasn’t. Trump’s detractors applauded Pence’s choice to decline the endorsement. “Good job Mike Pence,” was all that Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger said after resigning from Congress due to his disapproval of Trump.
Barack Obama’s aide-turned-political-commentator Tommy Vietor stated: “I did not expect this from Mike Pence.” I give him credit for having some spine. This is significant. However Mike Pence said on Fox News he would not support Biden. Pence has stated plans to spend $20 million this year to influence the conservative agenda. “Republican,” he declared. “That’s how I’ll vote for myself when that curtain closes.”
