According to the regional public prosecutor, raids on three villages in the northern Yatenga province of Burkina Faso resulted in the execution of almost 170 individuals.
Aly Benjamin Coulibaly confirmed on February 25 that the villages of Komsilga, Nodin, and Soroe were the site of “massive murderous attacks,” which were first reported to his office and later shared on the judicial ministry’s Facebook page.
Although a specific number was not provided, Coulibaly stated that there were also injuries. He called on anyone who knew anything to come forward.
Which organization was responsible for the attacks was not mentioned in the statement.
Authorities have not yet released an official number of fatalities from two separate incidents on February 25 that took place in the country’s northeast and north and targeted a church and a mosque.
According to a government press agency report last week, “hordes of terrorists conducted simultaneous attacks” on Tankoualou and Essakane villages, killing at least 15 Muslims and 15 Catholics.
The European Union showed support for the tumultuous country while denouncing the acts.

Since 2018, a significant portion of Burkina Faso’s east and north have lost their ability to be governed. Fearing more attacks by gunmen who often ride motorcycles into rural towns, millions of people have abandoned their homes. Numerous thousands have perished.
