In a shooting in Missouri nn Thursday, a police officer and a court official who was delivering an eviction notice were shot and murdered outside of Kansas City. At a press conference, authorities stated that although a second officer was seriously hurt, he is anticipated to live.
“I’m very sorry to report that we lost one of our own,” Adam Dustman, the chief of Independence Police, stated. He named the dead officer as 35-year-old Cody Allen. In light of Allen’s passing, Dustman noted that he “always had a smile” and called the police force a “broken family.”

According to Dustman, the second officer whose identity was withheld underwent surgery and is anticipated to make a full recovery. According to the police chief, a third officer also “took gunshot rounds” and sustained minor wounds.
Drexel Mack, a court official, was shot while he attempted to deliver an eviction notice. According to Dustman, Mack or another civil process servant present at the residence contacted 911 to report that Mack had been shot. When someone fired at them, the cops arrived at around 1:10 p.m., according to Mack, and they went to assist him.
Emergency vehicles gathered around a sizable, solitary home in the middle of a field, as seen in helicopter footage from KMBC-TV. There are a few homes on several-acre lots scattered among the area’s farms and forests. Nestled amid the houses lies a church.
At a press conference, Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Justin Ewing stated that the individual who was suspected of being involved in the shooting was in jail and had just minor wounds. Officer Jack Taylor, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department, stated that little information regarding the precise events leading up to the shootings was immediately available. Mack had been employed by Jackson County for more than ten years. He was in his early 40s.
Presiding Judge Jalilah Otto released a statement saying, “We are devastated that a court employee, who is a public servant, was shot by a member of the public while performing their job.” “Our thoughts and hearts go out to our employee, the Independence Police Department, and our entire Court family.”
To transport the remains to the medical examiner’s office, more than a dozen police officers formed a line outside Centerpoint Medical Center late on Thursday afternoon. Once the procession dispersed, people comforted and hugged one another. At around 122,000, Independence is a suburb of Kansas City.
