The League of Arab States and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, protecting civilians, and ensuring access to humanitarian aid that meets the urgent needs of the people of the Gaza Strip without prevention or obstruction.
This came during a meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the Arab League, Dr. Saeed Abu Ali, today, at the headquarters of the League’s General Secretariat, with the Director-General of the West Asia and North Africa Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Di, and his accompanying delegation.
Who calls on for a ceasefire in Gaza?
Thursday, Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for an end to the massacre of civilians in Gaza and an immediate ceasefire after 20,000 Palestinians were killed and more than 52,000 others were injured in Gaza in Israeli raids within 3 months.
Ghebreyesus said on the X platform: “The fact that we are talking about the deaths of 20,000 people, most of them children and women, and the injury of more than 52,000 in about 3 months, is horrific, and above all a disgrace to humanity.”
He explained that the situation in Gaza for the residents trapped inside it has become like hell on earth.
He stated that about 300 people are dying daily in Gaza on average, with the fighting intensifying, especially in light of the collapse of the health system, as only 9 hospitals are partially functioning out of 36 hospitals in Gaza, and all hospitals in northern Gaza have stopped working.
He added that disease, hunger, and lack of clean water and sanitation pose additional risks beyond bombs and bullets.
