US President Joe Biden was stunned while leaving his campaign headquarters in Delaware when one of the cars in his convoy collided with another, which required the alert of the Secret Service, who rushed to remove Biden from the place.
After they heard the loud sound caused by a passenger car colliding with an SUV parked at a nearby intersection about 40 meters from Biden, security personnel surrounded the President and pushed him into another car that was waiting for him, where he was transported away from the building located in downtown Wilmington.
A White House official told an Agence France-Presse reporter who witnessed the incident that “the President and the first lady are fine.”
“Today, at approximately 8:09 p.m. (01:09 GMT), a vehicle collided with a Secret Service vehicle that was protecting the route taken by the President’s motorcade in Wilmington,” Secret Service spokesman Steve Kubiak said in a statement.
He added that there was no need for any preventive measures and “the president’s convoy left without any incident.”
US President appeared Shocked
A group of reporters who gathered in front of the campaign headquarters, where Biden and First Lady Jill had just finished eating dinner with staff, saw signs of being shocked appear on the President’s face when he heard the sound of the collision.
The President’s guards rushed towards the silver-colored car that caused the accident and had license plates from the state of Delaware, where they pointed their weapons at its driver, who raised his hands in surrender.
Security men also surrounded the gathered reporters and one of the employees asked them to evacuate the place, saying: “They are evacuating the area, you have to leave.”
