Match highlights

USA lost the toss and went into bat in the first innings. Batting at the beginning, the United States scored 110 runs after losing 8 wickets at the end of the last over. Opener Shayan Jahangir made his way to the pavilion with the first ball bowled by Arshdeep Singh. Top-order batsman Andries Gous returned to the pavilion with 3 runs in the last ball of that over.

After losing 2 wickets for 3 runs, the in-form Aaron Jones and Steven Taylor started playing. But Jones could not last long without taking any risks. The batsman was caught by Mohammad Siraj at fine leg after being top edged by Hardik Pandya.

Nitish Kumar changed the pace of the game down to five. When no one could stand in front of the cannon of the Indian bowlers, he batted quite comfortably. Steven Taylor struggled a lot in the beginning, but after getting Nitish’s company, he also opened his hands and started playing.

This partnership of 31 runs from 26 balls was broken as Taylor was dismissed by Axar Patel. Taylor could not score more than 24 runs in 30 balls despite hitting 2 sixes.

Nitish continued the run score even after Taylor’s departure. But his resistance was broken by a brilliant catch by Mohammad Siraj on the boundary. Nitish scored 27 runs off 23 balls with 2 fours and 1 six.

T20 World Cup

Veteran batsman Corey Anderson got off to a good start but couldn’t sustain it. He scored 15 runs off 12 balls. 10 runs came from the bat of Harmeet Singh. In the end, Shadley van Schalkwyk played a cameo of 11 runs off 10 balls. And the US innings stopped at 110 runs. The target for India was 111 run.

Chasing 111 runs, India started to get flustered. Rohit Sharma’s team lost 3 wickets for 39 runs on board, which might have given Monak Patel’s team a dream of victory. But Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey shattered their dreams by their innings. Suryakumar and Dubey’s unbroken 72 runs partnership for India brought the win back for the team. Although both Suryakumar and Dubey were struggling in the beginning. Gradually they adapted to Nassau’s strange pitch.

T20 World Cup

Saurabh Netravalkar took the wickets of Rohit Sharma who scored 3 runs and Virat Kohli who scored no run for the team. Rishabh Pant got bowled by Ali Khan with 18 runs on board. But that couldn’t stop India form winning the match.

Why India was awarded five runs penalty?

The Indian team received 5 runs on their scoreboard by the umpire. This happened because the USA were not ready to bowl next over 60 seconds after completing the previous one. This is a new rule that has been applied to the

“If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the previous over being completed, a 5 run penalty will be imposed the third time it happens in an innings,” said the ICC in a statement.

The umpires had warned the USA skipper, Aaron Jones twice for violating the stop-clock rule but after the third instance of the offence, the umpire called for the five penalty runs.

Player of the match

Arshdeep Singh(India) became the player of the match after taking 4 wickets against USA.
