Manchester City created a new history on the last day of the English Premier League 2023-24 season, by defeating West Ham United by 3-1 to win the league title.
Pep Guardiola’s men have become the first team in the history of the English Premier League to win four consecutive league titles. This is the first time a team has won the trophy for four times in a row.

However, the defending champions had to fight until the last match of the league to secure the title. But that could not stop the Citizens, who have won the title six times in the last seven years.
On Sunday (May 19), Manchester City confirmed their fourth consecutive title and their eighth title by lifting Kyle Walker’s title. Previously, Man City won the English Premier League title for the years 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23.
Match highlight and goals
City went into the last game of the league on Sunday by two points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. The equation was – City had to win the match to win the title. A draw or a loss will have to make them wait for the Arsenal-Everton match.
However, within the first 20 minutes of the match, Phil Foden made the City fans forget about the Arsenal match. The English forward scored the first goal in the 79th second of the match and the second goal in the 18th minute.
In the 42nd minute of the match, West Ham reduced the deficit to 2–1 with a superb overhead kick by Mohammad Kudus. However, as Arsenal was behind by 1 goal, the Etihad did not worry.
Pep Guardiola’s team completely removed the pressure from the fans in the 59th minute of the match. Rodri made City’s scoreline 3–1 with an assist from Bernardo Silva.
In the end, holding on to this gap, City dragged the match to the last minute, when many spectators left the gallery seats early to rush down to the field.
Arsenal were 2–1 up against Everton by then, but City were untroubled. The work of winning the trophy that they have done in their own capacity.
City also completed an unbeaten season at the Etihad on the day of their fourth straight league title. 47 of the 91 points taken in 38 matches came in this field. In England’s top league, City were previously unbeaten at home for a full season in 1904–05, 1920–21 and 2011–12.
Player of the match
Phil Foden won the title of player of the match. It was fitting that Foden starred, as he has done throughout the season, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award.

Pep Guardiola’s league season
Guardiola added his name to City’s fourth straight league win. Guardiola now has the second most trophies in the English Premier League (6) after Sir Alex Ferguson (13).
But more than this personal achievement, Guardiola’s biggest reason for pride is a fourth league win in a row. And anyway, his team was the first in Premier League history to win the league in four consecutive seasons.
